DILPOMA IN NURSING
To train a nurse who will be self directed, analytical, knowledgeable, and skilful and be able to respond to changing, emerging diseases and contribute towards improving the quality of care.

TYPE OF NURSING TRAINING:

REGISITERED NURSING

TRAINING AFFLIATION/REGSITRATION: REGISTERED TO GENERAL NURSING OF ZAMBIA (REGULATORY BODY OF NURSING EDUCATION).

DURATION OF STUDY: THREE (3) YEARS

PAPER AWARDED AFTER COMPLETION: DILPOMA IN NURSING

AWARDING INSTITUTION: GENERAL NURSING COUNCIL OF ZAMBIA

At the end of the programme, the graduate will be able to:

1. Assess health needs of individuals, families, groups and communities using various nursing models.

2. Apply knowledge from basic sciences (behavioural and biological) in the management of patients and clients.

3. Initiate and conduct operational research

4. Develop a multi-disciplinary and team approach in their work.

5. Work in partnership with groups and communities in the assessment, planning and implementation and evaluation of health care.

6. Recognise and accept the needs for self direction, professional awareness and continued professional grown.

7. Apply various innovative methods of learning and education in order to be self directed in addressing different health care issues.

8. Apply knowledge on information technology in their day to day work.

9. Serve as role model in the nursing profession

10. Be proactive and assertive in their learning process and nursing practice

Entry requirements
Pre-Service (School Leavers):

The minimum entry requirements for school leavers into this programme shall be:

• ‘5’ ‘O’ levels at credit level of the Zambian certificate or its equivalent as follows::

a) Three (3) ‘0’ level compulsory subjects in

  • I. English Language
  • II. Mathematics and
  • III. Any science subject
  • b) Any two (2) subjects .

    c) Minimum entry age shall be 16 years

    d) All candidates should pass both personal and written interviews

    In-Service (Those with certificate in General Nursing-Enrolled Nurses ):

    The minimum entrance requirements for the in-service candidates into this programme will be.

    • Five (5) ‘O’ levels at credit level of the Zambian school certificate examination or its equivalent as follows

    a) Three (3) ‘0’ level compulsory subjects in.

  • I. English Language
  • II. Mathematics and
  • III. Any science subject
  • b) Any two (2) subjects .

    c) Minimum of two (2) years working experience

    All candidates should pass both personal and written interviews Biology/Science or Human Biology being compulsory and a minimum of two years working experience.
